Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior political figure stated the attack left him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
