Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player secured his first title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, managing just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Now working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's first championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since that period of that year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's retrieving strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had led observers to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

He saved four early break points in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
